When you receive a DUI in the state of Arizona, it can be overwhelming, stressful, emotional, and frustrating.\u00a0 <\/span>Luckily, there\u2019s a few things you can do prior to your court date that can help move the process along as quickly and as smooth as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you have an attorney, they may suggest that you go to a Drug & Alcohol Treatment agency<\/a> and get what\u2019s called a DUI Screening<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s a few different names for this type of appointment; \u201cAlcohol Screening\u201d, \u201cMVD Screening\u201d, \u201cDUI Screening\u201d, \u201cRestricted License Screening\u201d, \u201cDrug Screening\u201d, just to name a few.\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t worry, these names are interchangeable and are all the same type of appointment that you\u2019ll need\u00a0 <\/span>(NOTE: DUI Screenings are <\/span>not<\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/i>the same as DUI Revocation Evaluations).<\/span><\/p>\n

A DUI Alcohol Screening is the first step to ensuring your compliance with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) – Motor Vehicles Department (MVD)<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>There are 2 purposes for obtaining a Screening:<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. The first and main purpose for the Screening is so that you can apply for a Restricted Drivers License through the Motor Vehicles Department (<\/span>MVD<\/span>). \u00a0 <\/span>What is a Restricted Driver\u2019s License?<\/b> \u00a0 <\/span>A restricted driver\u2019s license will allow you to legally drive to and from work, school, and treatment\/counseling <\/b>during your driver\u2019s license suspension.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. The second purpose for the Screening is for the Arizona <\/span>Court<\/span> that your case is being held out of.\u00a0 <\/span>If convicted, the judge will order you to obtain a Screening if you have not done so already.\u00a0 <\/span>The Screening results will help the judge with sentencing only<\/i><\/b> if you are convicted of the charge.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n

      \u201cWhat should I expect during the Screening?\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

      The Screening appointment is a quick 30 minute interview with a trained and qualified Behavioral Health Technician.\u00a0 <\/span>The questions asked during the interview are state-mandated and pulled directly from OBHL criteria for Alcohol Screenings.\u00a0 <\/span>From there, the Behavioral Health Technician will report your Screening completion directly to the MVD for you and will also make recommendations for DUI classes that you\u2019ll need to complete <\/span>only<\/b><\/span> if\/when you are convicted of the DUI charge. <\/span><\/p>\n
